Framed in Stone - Lincoln Cathedral
Lincoln Cathedral glimpsed through one of it’s historic archways on a misty winter day in 2023. One of the pleasures of photographing Lincoln is discovering how the cathedral continually reappears from different viewpoints, framed by the architecture and streets that have grown around it.
Cleethorpes Pier in the Mist
Cleethorpes pier emerges through thick coastal fog, it’s lights growing softly across the beach while the promenade disappears into the mist. An atmospheric view of one of the resort’s familiar landmarks, transformed by winter weather.
A View Now Lost
Sunrise over the fields near Louth in November 2021, with the spire of St James Church visible on the horizon. The solitary tree that defined this view was felled in 2026, making the photograph a record of a Lincolnshire landscape that can be no longer see.
Autumn Lane, Stainton Le Vale.
The lane through Stainton Le Vale in the Lincolnshire Wolds, photographed in October 2024 as the trees reached their autumn colour. Fallen leaves line the quiet road while the last warm light filters through the woodland canopy.
Footsteps in the Snow
Waltham Windmill on a winter morning, reached along a freshly snow covered path marked only by a trail of footprints. The warm glow of the lamps contrasts with the cold landscape as windmill rises beneath a brooding winter sky.
Light Across the Wolds
Walesby’s Rambler’s Church stands above the Lincolnshire Wolds, with Lincoln Cathedral visible on the distant horizon. Shafts of sunlight break dramatically through the clouds, illuminating the landscape and drawing the eye across the miles towards Lincoln.
Signposts Across the Wolds
A traditional Lincolnshire fingerpost points towards Nettleton, Thoresway, Normanby le Wold and Claxby, while the countryside below the Lincolnshire Wolds stretches away behind it. On the distant horizon, the towers of Lincoln Cathedral can just be picked out - a remarkable landmark visible across many miles of the county.
Golden Dawn over Louth
The rising Sun floods a flowering rapeseed field with warm spring colour, with the distinctive spire of St James’ Church visible on the distant horizon. A classic Lincolnshire Wolds view at the beginning of the day
Summer Light at the Fitties
Warm late afternoon light falls across the beach at Humberston Fitties, with a traditional navigation marker standing against the Humber Estuary and Haile Sand Fort visible offshore. A quiet summer view where the distinctive features of the estuary meet the golden light of the Lincolnshire Coast.
The Road into Sunset
A quiet country lane winds through the Lincolnshire Wolds towards a spectacular sunset, the last golden reflecting from the road beneath a sky filled with fiery cloud. One of those fleeting evenings when an ordinary rural lane becomes something extraordinary
